How to Add Menu Items

  1. Login to  your site’s backend e.g. www.yoursite.com.au/administrator
  2. Make sure the article that will come under the menu item is already created
    1. If not, refer to: How to add menu items, Joomla
  3. Dropdown ‘Menus’ (Top menu) and select the menu you want to add to, e.g. ‘TM – Prices’ (TM = top menu)
  4. Click ‘New’
    1. Select ‘Articles’ > ‘Article Layout’ from the breakout menu
    2. Add a Title, .e.g. Specials (this will appear as the title of the new menu item on the website)
    3. Leave Alias blank, this will auto generate
    4. In ‘Parent Item’, click the main menu item, e.g. ‘Prices’ (should be just under ‘top)
    5. On the right side, click ‘Select’ under ‘Parameters Basic’
    6. Find the article you want to add
    7. Select the article
    8. Click ‘Save’
  5. To test, go to your website, refresh the page, and you should see the dropdown menu
  6. If you have a left menu on that menu, you will need to enable it for the menu item you just created
    1. Select ‘Extensions’ > ‘Module Manager’ (Top menu)
    2. Look for the corresponding menu, e.g. L – Prices (L = left menu)
      1. Note: you should see the ‘Position’ as ‘left’
    3. Select that menu
    4. Under ‘Menu Assignment’, scroll to the highlighted row
    5. Below the highlighted row should be the menu item you just created
    6. Hold ‘Ctrl’ and click on the new menu item’s row e.g. Specials
    7. Save and click the new menu item and you should see the left menu
